<description><![CDATA[Arup is seeking a mid- to senior-level Water Resources Engineer/Scientist to join our water practice within the Infrastructure group in San Francisco. This is a technical and creative group that seeks to provide environmentally sensitive and sustainable solutions to unique engineering challenges related to surface water management, water supply and wastewater treatment at site, master plan and catchment scales.<br/><br/>This position is based in San Francisco with an initial 6 month onsite assignment in Houston. Travel, accommodation and expenses in Houston will be provided by Arup.<br/><br/>The candidate should have the following experience:<br/><br/>Surface Water Management (Hydrology, Hydraulics & Drainage)<br/><br/>The preferred candidate will have a background in hydraulics/hydrology with experience in watershed planning and management. Experience of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling (HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, etc.) is required, with an ability to develop technical solutions for flood control and water quality through evaluation of pollutant sources and loading, flooding volumes and flow rates, and optimization of storage requirements.<br/><br/>Water Supply<br/><br/>The applicant shall be proficient in water demand estimating for typical as well as sustainable project types and shall be well versed and capable of specifying an array of efficiency and alternative supply strategies for reducing potable water demands.<br/><br/>Waste Water<br/><br/>Experience in planning and evaluation of waste water treatment options ranging from the prediction of flows and loads to the assessment of treatment technology options for cost, footprint, energy and maintenance requirements is desired.<br/><br/>A familiarity with Federal and California codes and regulations relating to storm water, flood control, water supply and wastewater treatment, and health and safety is desired. Experience in ecological engineering of wetland and river restoration projects as well as reservoir management and limnology are a plus. The hired candidate will join a dynamic and motivated team working in a truly multi-disciplinary environment.<br/><br/>Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:<br/><br/>• Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the interactions with associated disciplines including: geotechnical engineering; traffic engineering and multi-modal transportation analyses; environmental issues with particular reference to contamination assessment and mitigation; urban planning; cost estimating; building engineering (structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing); architecture; and landscape architecture<br/><br/>• Responsible for project financial performance, client relations and team motivation<br/><br/>• Prepare and review drawings and specifications documenting the systems designed<br/><br/>• Prepare Scheme Design, Design Development and Construction Contract Documentation<br/><br/>• Provide engineering input to mixed-use development and campus masterplans<br/><br/>• System design calculations<br/><br/>• Technical and Design Report writing<br/><br/>• Coordinate work with engineers of other Arup disciplines and design firms<br/><br/>• Attend meetings with clients, agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss design issues with them<br/><br/>• Supervise design team activities during Construction Administration<br/><br/>• Manage work and development of other staff<br/><br/>• Manage small, medium or large projects<br/><br/>• Responsible for quality of work output<br/><br/>• Develop new project opportunities and manage proposal submissions<br/><br/>Requirements:<br/><br/>• Qualified professional with a minimum 8-12 years of experience working on site development and/or infrastructure projects<br/><br/>• Project management and design experience of site development projects including the following elements: grading, stormwater management, highway design, sustainable infrastructure systems, utilities, CEQA/NEPA requirements<br/><br/>• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; Masters Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is preferred<br/><br/>• PE license in the State of California<br/><br/>• Previous project and staff management experience<br/><br/>• Commercial/financial awareness<br/><br/>• Experience in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microstation, and Inroads is preferred<br/><br/>Qualities:<br/><br/>• Excellent communication skills essential for team-based working, client/public presentations and written output<br/><br/>• Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment<br/><br/>• Must be highly motivated, proactive and willing to take on new challenges<br/><br/>• Sound knowledge of engineering fundamentals and attention to detail]]></description>
