As a Transportation Planning Intern, you will learn and apply the following:

• Conducting background research on specific locations, strategies or policies

• Data collection and analysis

• Completing and documenting technical analyses

• Report writing

• Attending team, consultant and client meetings

• Working with people from other disciplines to gain knowledge on new subjects.

Necessary:

• Workings towards a Bachelor Degree in Urban Planning or Civil Engineering with a concentration in transportation

• Coursework in transportation planning and/or engineering

• Relevant intern and/or research experience

• Proven interest in the field of transportation planning

• Good time management habits, ability to multi-task, ability to sustain focus on long tasks

• Ability to communicate thoughts and ideas in an accessible way

• Attitude of taking initiative, enthusiasm, eagerness to learn, teamwork, creativity.

Preferred:

• 3.5 GPA or higher, working towards a Master’s or Dual Master’s degree, membership in at least one relevant professional organization

• Significant thesis, class project or studio work related to urban transportation planning, transportation engineering analysis, sustainability, and or transportation land use interface

• Internship with transportation consulting firm or major transportation agency

• Evidence of past internship or extracurricular activity in the field

• Proven ability to perform in a paid work environment with intermittent supervision

• Past history of presentations and technical writing

• Evidence of personal investment in academic or extracurricular field.

As a CAD/ 3D-BIM Design Intern, you will learn and apply the following:

• Introductory training to all the visual styles, discipline requirements and software

• Previous knowledge of 2D platforms, such as AutoCAD or Microstation will be consolidated upon, with skills assessments and on the job training

• Detailed training and use of add-on software through on job use

• Multi-disciplinary coordination and how complete drawing packages are compiled

• Learning about the CAD Skills Network (introduction course, on the job)

• Work closely with engineers and drafters to create drawing sets - documentation and archiving

• Work on drawings across disciplines to gain an appreciation of each role

Necessary:

• Working towards an Associate Degree in CAD technology, CAD drafting, solids modeling, or related field

• AutoCAD skills

• Professional demeanor

• Detail and accuracy oriented

• Ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible way

• Attitude of taking initiative, enthusiasm, and eagerness to learn

Preferred:

• 3.3 GPA or higher, working towards a Bachelors Degree in related field

• Internship experience with a design firm

• AutoCad, Microstation, Revit, 3D modeling (Rhino, SketchUp, etc.)

• Evidence of past internship or extracurricular activity in the field

• Proven ability, interest and confidence to create complex geometry

• Past history of technical drawing or model building

• Evidence of personal investment in academic or extracurricular field

As a Fire Consultant Intern, you will learn and apply the following:

• Develop portions of fire and life safety strategies

• Complete conceptual emergency evacuation and smoke management calculations

• Review drawings for conformance to the fire and life safety strategy

• Assist with the development of fire and evacuation simulations

• Assist with the development of structural fire calculations

• Assist senior engineers to help clients to incorporate fire and life safety strategy concepts into the design

• Attend meetings and learn from listening, asking questions and discussion

Necessary:

• Working towards a Bachelor Degree in Fire Protection or Mechanical Engineering

• Professional demeanor

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Skills in planning and organizing

• Attitude of taking initiative, enthusiasm, eagerness to learn

Preferred:

• 3.5 GPA or higher, working towards a Masters in Fire Protection Engineering

• Coursework in Fire Dynamics, Evaluation, Building Codes, and Fire Protection Systems

• Internship experience with a design firm

• Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics simulation software (Fire Dynamics Simulator, Fluent, or others) or evacuation software

• Proven ability to perform in a deadline environment

• Past history of technical presentations and technical writing

• Evidence of personal investment in academic or extracurricular field
