As a Civil Engineering Intern, you will learn and apply the following:

•MicroStation and AutoCAD software to layout roads, rail alignments, drainage systems, utility systems and grading design

•Hydraulic modeling tools such as InfoWorks, Hydraflow and WaterCAD to analyze and design stormwater, sanitary and potable water systems

•Applicable codes, specifications and standards for design of the above elements

You will become familiar with the:

•Interdependence between skills in delivering sustainable outcomes

•Many phases of the planning, design and construction process

•Techniques associated with construction activities

•Regulatory environment for gaining approval at different stages of project delivery

•Wide range of disciplines and skills with Arup

•Needs and concerns of our clients

Necessary:

•Working towards a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering

•Sound knowledge of civil engineering fundamentals

Preferred:

•3.3 GPA or higher, working towards a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering

As an IT and Communications Intern, you will take part in the following kinds of activities:

•Design of IT and communications infrastructure for the built environment including structured cabling systems, local area networks, wireless/radio systems, voice systems, security systems, public address and customer information systems, airport systems, transit systems

•Report writing

•Work on projects using AutoCAD

•Give structure to ideas – lots of “taking a first pass” at spreadsheets, reports and analyses for discussion later rather than instruction

•Attend meetings and learn from listening, asking question and discussion

•Work with people from other disciplines and/or vendors to gain knowledge on new subjects

Necessary:

•Working on a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or Computer Engineering

•Good communication skills are essential for team-based working

•Keen interest in pursuing a career in the field of IT and communications infrastructure and systems design.

•Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment

•Must be highly motivated, proactive and willing to take on new challenges

•Previous summer internship experience advantageous

Preferred:

•3.3 GPA, working towards a Master’s Degree

•EIT/ FE Certification

•Internship experience in a consulting firm

•Academic research or testing with relevant focus.

As a CAD/ 3D-BIM Design Intern, you will learn and apply the following:

• Introductory training to all the visual styles, discipline requirements and software

• Previous knowledge of 2D platforms, such as AutoCAD or Microstation will be consolidated upon, with skills assessments and on the job training

• Detailed training and use of add-on software through on job use

• Multi-disciplinary coordination and how complete drawing packages are compiled

• Learning about the CAD Skills Network (introduction course, on the job)

• Work closely with engineers and drafters to create drawing sets - documentation and archiving

• Work on drawings across disciplines to gain an appreciation of each role

Necessary:

• Working towards an Associate Degree in CAD technology, CAD drafting, solids modeling, or related field

• AutoCAD skills

• Professional demeanor

• Detail and accuracy oriented

• Ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible way

• Attitude of taking initiative, enthusiasm, and eagerness to learn

Preferred:

• 3.3 GPA or higher, working towards a Bachelors Degree in related field

• Internship experience with a design firm

• AutoCad, Microstation, Revit, 3D modeling (Rhino, SketchUp, etc.)

• Evidence of past internship or extracurricular activity in the field

• Proven ability, interest and confidence to create complex geometry

• Past history of technical drawing or model building
